This message was about the Bible.
I knew a woman. She was going through a hard time in her life. Her husband had passed and certain circumstances had caused a separation between her and her kids. She wouldn’t be able to see them for two years. The only thing she had to hold on to was the Bible. She told me that the Bible carried her for two of the lowest years of her life.
The Bible is not just another storybook.
The Bible is just a book if you don’t learn to use it. But if you learn to use it, it will be the greatest weapon you have. The Bible is alive. It will talk to you, lead you, guide you. It will correct you. The same book that will shake your world, will also bring peace to your world.
You can trust the Bible.
It’s written by at least 40 different authors over a 1,500 year period. There is no way that could have happened without the Lord. 1,500 years, 40 different authors, and it never contradicts itself. It wasn’t just man writing and ordeal. It was man moved on by the Holy Ghost. Psalm 118:8.
The Bible is like a compass.
A compass always points to the north. If someone is lost in the woods and they have a compass but do not know how to use it, they will stay lost. But if they know how to use the compass they can find their way out. When we read the Scriptures in the Bible, God will give us directions through the Holy Ghost. He will guide us on the best path to take. Psalm 119:105.
The Bible will put your focus on Jesus.
I’m going to make this really easy for you. I’m going to ask you to read your Bible only two times the rest of your life. Read when you feel like it, and read it when you don’t feel like it. Read it when you feel like it when you’re happy on the mountain. Read it when you don’t feel like it, when you’re sad and in the valley. Read it when the words run together, read it when your mind is in turmoil. Read your Bible and it will bring peace to your troubled heart. Pray a little bit as you read, let it talk to you. The Bible has not only patted me on the head and wrapped its arms around me. It has also knocked me on the side of the head, telling me to straighten up. John 1:29.
Just reading the Bible will keep the passion burning in your heart.
It’s pitiful how we can watch two hours of a movie, but not even read two chapters of the Bible. Jeremiah 20:9. Jeremiah set up in his mind that he was not going to witness to anyone anymore. He said he was finished. But somehow, even lacking the full Bible and only using the old scrolls that they had, the Word of God got down deep in his heart. Somewhere he let the Word get in his heart and he said it was like a fire shut up in his bones. He got weary of trying to quit because the Word burned in him like a flame.
It’s a dark world out there.
You need a light that will drive back the darkness when you can’t see which way to go. The darkness will tell you that there is no way out, that it’s over, that it’s never going to turn around. But there is no darkness that can overcome the Word of God.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
We don’t have to worry about tomorrow. God makes us lie down in green pastures. We can rest and sleep soundly without worrying about food for tomorrow. We can rest because God has a meal waiting for us in the morning. With this, He’s telling us that if He took care of us today, that he will take care of us tomorrow.
The Bible is a bath for your soul.
Psalm 119:9. Ephesians 5:26. If you read this Bible and study it, it will keep you clean. You cannot honestly read the Bible and treat people wrong. It won’t let you.
Learn the real.
You need to read your bible so much that you become so familiar with the truth that you will be able to recognize anything that is junk. If you get around someone different and you feel that little check from the Holy Ghost, I urge you not to override that check. It doesn’t matter how pretty or good it looks. If you feel that check and override it, it will get you into trouble.
I did some research about the Bible and told some of the facts I found. If you would like to hear more on this, I would like to encourage you to listen to the sermon below. Also, if you don’t have a Bible, but would like one to read for yourself, give us a call. 1.877.266.4088. We would love to send you one.
